Setting and Injecting Your Dose

Note: If you have not conducted a successful Safety Test, do not proceed. See Safety Test.

To read the dose correctly, hold OptiClik® as shown in Step 2. The printed "OptiClik®" must be readable left of the dose display. Do not hold the pen upside down when reading the dose display; otherwise you may misread the dose on the Digital Dose Display.

press start button
To set the dose, first press the Start Button.
turning dosage knob
Turn the Dosage Knob slowly to the right (clockwise) until you reach your required dosage. Make sure that the Dosage Knob is not between 2 clicks. You must feel and hear each click. If you dial too high of a dose, simply turn the Dosage Knob down (to the left) to your dose.
inserting the needle
Check the label on your Cartridge System to make sure you have the correct insulin before injecting. Clean the injection area with rubbing alcohol. Insert the needle as recommended by your healthcare professional. In many cases, this means lightly pinching a fold of skin on your stomach, thigh, or upper arm and inserting the needle straight into the pinched skin.
injecting the dose

Inject the dose by slowly pushing the Dosage Knob all the way down until it locks into place. You will feel and hear soft clicking during the injection. The number in the Digital Dose Display does not count down as you are injecting. You can be assured you are receiving your full dose of insulin by pushing in the Dosage Knob until it stops clicking and locks into place. Then slowly count to 10 while holding the Dosage Knob before pulling out the needle.

Make sure you do not press the Cartridge Release Button or the Start Button while you are injecting.

After injecting your dose, the Digital Dose Display will not go back to "0" but it will show the delivered dose for 2 minutes. Do not reinject your dose as this may result in an overdose.

Note: The force needed to push the Dosage Knob in for injection increases as the selected dose gets higher.
