Answer to Your Questions

Q: How do I take care of OptiClik®?
A: Dirt can impede the operation of OptiClik®, so clean it once a week with a clean damp cloth. DO NOT use cleaning agents. Use an alcohol swab only for cleaning the Cartridge System's rubber seal. OptiClik® must be handled with care.

Q: How do I store OptiClik®?
A: Your OptiClik® should be stored:
  • Without the needle at room temperature (never in the refrigerator)
  • With the Dosage Knob pushed in to protect the life of the battery
  • With the Pen Cap on to protect it from dust

These storage conditions are summarized in the following table:

Storage conditions for Opticlik®

Q: I thought insulin was supposed to be kept in the refrigerator.
A: You are right. Unopened insulin must be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature between 36°F-46°F
(2°C-8°C). Once you attach the Cartridge System to OptiClik®, it should be stored at room temperature (for Lantus®, below 86°F (30°C); for Apidra®, below 77°F (25°C)).

Q: Once I attach a Cartridge System to OptiClik®, how long does it last?
A: A Cartridge System lasts up to 28 days at room temperature (for Lantus®, below 86°F (30°C); for Apidra®, below 77°F (25°C)) when attached to OptiClik®.

Q: What do I need to know about needles?
A: Always use a new, sterile needle each time you inject. This prevents blocked needles and air bubbles. OptiClik® accepts needles of different lengths and gauges. Two types of needles are available: a type that screws on and a type that clicks on. If you are unsure, consult the needle package. Note: needles may vary from country to country and may not be interchangeable. Make sure you have a sufficient supply of needles and Cartridge Systems with you when traveling abroad.

Q: How long does OptiClik® last?
A: OptiClik® is expected to last 3 years, at which time the OptiClik® will need to be replaced.

Q: How do I inject my insulin in an emergency if my OptiClik® is damaged?
A: In an emergency, you can draw up the insulin from the Cartridge System using a U-100 syringe.

Q: Is there a number I can call with questions?
A: Yes, contact your healthcare professional or call 1-800-633-1610 any time of day or night for assistance with OptiClik®.
