Taking Care of OptiClik®
OptiClik® may become damaged by rough handling, dropping, or turning the Dosage
Knob with force. Make sure that no dirt comes in contact with the mechanical parts.
You should always verify that:
- The Cartridge System is undamaged
- The Start Button, Dosage Knob, and
Digital Dose Display still operate properly
Do not use tools on OptiClik®. If you are not sure whether or not your OptiClik®
is damaged, contact your healthcare professional or call 1-800-633-1610. If OptiClik®
is damaged, it is no longer safe to use. In an emergency, you can draw up the insulin
from the Cartridge System using a U-100 insulin syringe.
Things to Know Before You Inject
Important pre-insertion Information
Do not shake the Cartridge System before use. Examine the solution in the Cartridge
System before inserting it into the pen—if it is cloudy, slightly colored,
or has particles in it, do not use the Cartridge System.
Needles for OptiClik®
Needles are available in different lengths and gauges from BD Consumer Healthcare
and Ypsomed. Contact your healthcare professional for further information and a
prescription. Please note there are two types of needles: one that screws on and
another type that pushes (or clicks) on. Both needle types can be used. Please consult
the manual of the needle package.
Needles and availability may vary from country to country and may not be interchangeable.
Only use the recommended needles. If you intend to travel abroad, make sure that
you have sufficient needles and insulin Cartridge Systems with you.
You must use a new sterile needle (the Protective Seal should be intact) for every
injection. This can prevent a blocked needle, air bubbles, or leakage. In order
to avoid injuries, replace the Outer Needle Cap before removing and disposing of
used needles.
Being safe
Before every injection, carry out the Safety Test to
ensure that you will receive the correct dose of insulin. Getting the wrong dose
may lead to unwanted blood sugar changes (see patient information for your insulin).
Do not perform the Safety Test without the needle attached.
